Following the April 2000 workshop held in Buenos Aires, three key areas of support were identified by the city authorities:
- Strengthening the enforcement capacity through training of personnel for the inspection and maintenance systems
- Planning and developing a cycle-lane system that would connect to other transportation systems
- Developing an emissions inventory for fixed sources.
These targeted activities complement two World Bank lending operations (Pollution Management Project and Urban Transport Project) in the areas of air quality monitoring and emissions inventories for mobile sources. In addition, specialized studies will help develop priority measures for reducing emissions and noise. These efforts are expected to strengthen the Buenos AiresClean Air Programand the city's ability to implement iits air quality law.
The activities are confirmed and their implementation is now being planned. These activities are funded through consultant trust funds made available by the governments of Spain and Canada through the World Bank.
