El Banco Mundial se complace en invitarlo a participar en el Taller sobre Transporte Sostenible y Calidad del Aire en Latinoamérica sobre la que Iniciativa Regional GEF: Una fuente de recursos económicos nueva para fomentar proyectos de Transporte Sostenible y Calidad del Aire en Latinoamérica. Este Taller se llevará a cabo inmediatamente después del XIII Congreso Latinoamericano de Transporte Público (CLATPU) en Lima, Perú, el día viernes 7 de octubre de 2005. El objetivo de este Taller es presentar el "Programa Regional sobre Transporte Sostenible y Calidad del Aire" que el Banco Mudial está preparando. Este proyecto, que será aprobado el próximo año, tendrá disponibles en la primera fase aproximadamente US$100 millones —la primera fase será de US$40 millones—para apoyar, mediante donaciones, proyectos de transporte en ciudades Latinoamericanas.
El "Programa Regional de Transporte Sostenible y Calidad del Aire" brindará asistencia técnica y apoyo económico a proyectos innovadores que: (i) aumenten la eficiencia del transporte y reduzcan las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero; (ii) promuevan el cambio a largo plazo hacia sistemas de transporte mas eficientes y menos intensivos en el uso de energía; (iii) coordinen planes del uso del suelo y de transporte y que reduzcan, a través de políticas del uso del suelo, la dependencia en sistemas motorizados, en especial automóviles particulares; (iv) implementen soluciones de transporte que sean costo-efectivas, que aumenten la eficiencia en la movilidad de las personas, que reduzcan la congestión y que ofrezcan mayor accesibilidad al transporte a la comunidad.
Este Taller brindará la oportunidad para discutir el Programa del Fondo para el Medio Ambiente Mundial (GEF), en particular el Programa Operativo No. 11 (Promoción de Transporte Ambientalmente Sostenible), así como para presentar en detalle el Programa Regional en mención. Adicionalmente, se realizará una sesión especial de preguntas y respuestas con las ciudades interesadas donde se discutirán en detalle los procesos a seguir para organizar y, primero, organizar y presentar la candidaturapreparar la propuesta de las ciudades, y los pasos a seguir para segundo, para postular a estos fondos no reembolsables.

The World Bank is pleased to invite you to the one-day Workshop on Sustainable Transport and Air Quality that will follow the XIII Latin-American Congress on Public Transport (CLATPU) on October 7, 2005 in Lima. The main objectives of the workshop are to present the "Regional Program on Sustainable Transport and Air Quality" that is being prepared by the World Bank and to discuss the procedures to apply for available funding.
The "Regional Program on Sustainable Transport and Air Quality" will focus on providing assistance and funding for innovative projects that: (i) improve transport efficiency and reduce local and greenhouse gas emissions; (ii) promote long term shift to more efficient and less energy intensive modes of transportation; (iii) coordinate land-use and transport planning to reduce dependency on motorized transport, especially cars, through land use policies that increase accessibility to other forms of transport; and (iv) implement cost-effective transport solutions, manage mobility more efficiently, reduce congestion and provide equal access to transport for the entire community.
The workshop will serve as an opportunity to discuss the Global Environmental Facility Program, focusing particularly on Operational Program No. 11 (Promoting Environmentally and Sustainable Transport), and to present in detail the abovementioned Regional Program. Additionally, a special session will be held with interested parties to discuss the required political commitment and procedures to prepare a proposal and steps that have to be followed to apply for the available funds.
