Air Quality IndexesDate: 07/24 Endereco / Direccion / Address: Secretaria do Verde e Meio Ambiente Preliminary Program The purpose of this workshop is to provide information and answer questions about air quality indices: important things to consider when they are developed (e.g., whether to use colors or health-based descriptors); what technical tools are needed (e.g., monitoring networks, forecasting tools, Web sites for information dissemination); important groups to inform/consult (i.e., meteorologists and health care providers); effective outreach. The workshop would focus on two air quality indices that have recently been, or are currently being revised. The US Air Quality Index (AQI) was revised in 1999, and the air quality index of CETESB in Sao Paulo Brazil is currently being revised, with an anticipated launch in September, 2006. The workshop would use these as "case studies." Particular issues to be addressed in this workshop include:
