The Steering Committee discussed the progress made by the Program since its inception in 1998; the ongoing activities, in particular the phase-out of leaded gasoline, the issue of sulfur in diesel; and the work-program of AFRICACLEAN, a network of African experts on urban air pollution.
The meeting also discussed and approved the proposed work-program for the Phase II of the Initiative, covering the years 2003-2006.
More than ever, the Clean Air Initiative in sub-Saharan African Cities, thanks to the large partnership built, attempts to contribute to improving the well-being of urban populations in Africa and to a sustainable economic development in which the reduction of air pollution is a growing factor.
