23 July 2004, Tokyo - The dialogue of CAI-Asia with Japanese organizations from the local and national government, research and academic institutes, development agencies and other organizations based in Japan and who are undertaking AQM projects in Asia was successfully held in ADBi on 22-23 July 2004.
Among the organizations present in the meeting were the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Institute for Global Environment Studies (IGES) International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) Japan Office, Japan Automobile Research Insitute (JARI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Kawasaki City, Kitakyushu International Techno-Cooperative Association (KITA), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Ministry of Environment Japan, National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Overseas Environmental Cooperation Centre (OECC), United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), and the University of Hiroshima.
CAI-Asia was represented by its Chairperson Dr. Supat Wangwongwatana, Mr. Masami Tsuji of ADB, and Cornie Huizenga and Herbert Fabian of the CAI-Asia Secretariat.
The Dialogue was conducted with the assistance of the United Nations Regional Development Centre (UNCRD), and the Institute for Global Environmental Studies (IGES). The Asian Clean Fuels Association (ACFA) provided financial support by hosting cocktails on the first day of the Dialogue.
The Japanese participants of the Dialogue agreed that it is mutually beneficial to continue and build upon the success of this dialogue in order to coordinate and cooperate with CAI-Asia in strengthening air quality management in Asia.
The next Dialogue is scheduled for summer 2005.
