The Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) together with the City of Lahore, Lahore Clean Air Commission, National Environmental Action Plan-Support Programme, IUCN Pakistan, Asian Development Bank, and World Bank will hold the National Workshop on the Improvement of Urban Air Quality of Pakistan on December 13-15, 2004. The objective of the workshop is to galvanize air quality management efforts in Pakistan and to strengthen air quality management in the main urban areas of Pakistan (e.g., Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Quetta).
There will be about 80 participants from the following main cities: Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta. The participants will represent all relevant stakeholders (e.g., local government, national government, nongovernment organizations, academic institutions, development agencies, and private sector). Twenty Asian and international experts are expected to share their knowledge and exchange ideas on air quality management with the participants.
The workshop will arrive at recommendations on how to move towards better air quality management in Pakistan. These recommendations will be forwarded to the government and other stakeholders responsible for air quality management in Pakistan for their consideration and action. It is hoped that the networking effort among stakeholders in this workshop in this workshop will result in the establishment of local city networks, which will undertake follow-up actions in their respective cities after the workshop.
The City District Government of Lahore, Mansoor Ali Shah's law firm, and the CAI-Asia Secretariat compose the Workshop Secretariat. For inquiries, please contact Glynda Bathan ([email protected]).
