Trace Element composition of Airborne Particulate Matter in Urban and Rural Areas of Bangladesh | M Khaliquzzaman, S.K. Biswas, et al., Atomic Energy Centre, Dhaka, Report AFD-CH/3-44, Nov 1995 |
Abstract
Size fractioned aerosol samples were collected at an urban site (Dhaka) in Bangladesh for a period of 17 months and at a rural site for 6 months. The samples were collected using a ‘Gent’ stacked filter unit in two fractions of 0-2 ìm and 2-10 ìm sizes. Proton induced x-ray emission (PIXE) spectroscopy has been used to determine the concentrations of 18 elements in the range of ng/m3. The elements range from Si to Sr and include Pb. The results of analysis of 292 air particulate samples of coarse and fine types from the urban site are presented. The results are discussed in the context of air pollution specially that of Pb.
