Last June 26-28, 2008, the training workshop "Improving awareness on air quality protection and knowledge on global climate change" was organized by Vietnam Clean Air Partnership (VCAP) in cooperation with IREB and financing from the Sida Environment Fund (SEF). The workshop, which was held at the Institute of Resources, Environment and Biotechnology (IREB) in Hue University, was prepared for the journalists and reporters from the Central Region provinces.
Forty journalists, reporters, and young staff members from radio and television stations, newspapers and journals of the 9 provinces from the Central Region participated in the training. They were able to: listen to 7 presentations from leading lecturers and experts on issues of air pollution and climate change; participate in the field trip to Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon system and Ru Cha mangroves; discuss and carry out group exercises to strengthen their gained knowledge; indicate emerging issues in their home provinces, and proposed possible solutions to the said issues.
It was one of the first trainings on air quality and climate change for journalists in the Central Region - where people suffer the most from consequences of climate change in Vietnam and where there is still lack of awareness regarding this global problem. At the end of the training, participants expressed their satisfaction with the course and proposed that VCAP should continue organizing similar courses for other groups in the Central Region.
