City authorities want to run passenger buses on biogas rather than diesel fuel to save costs on fuel and reduce air pollution, according to the HCM City Department of Transport (DoT).
Biogas, or compressed natural gas, is a combustible gas created from decomposed organic material.
To operate by biogas, the existing bus engines must be retrofitted or replaced with a biogas-run engine for an average cost of US$25,000 each, according to Pham Xuan Mai, head of the Transport Technology Faculty of the HCM City University of Technology.
