On August 28-29, 2008, the Vietnam Forum of Environmental Journalists (VFEJ), a member of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE), held a workshop entitled "Climate Change Issue by Journalists," in Ha Tinh province to raise the awareness of journalists on the issue of climate change. More than 50 participants joined the workshop including: journalists from Ha Noi and other provinces, representatives from the Vietnam Television, leading officers from Ha Tinh provincial departments, representatives of some environmental companies and projects, and experts in the fields of hydrometeorology and environment.

Participants were given information on the impact of climate change on the national as well as the provincial level and the environmental impacts of some projects in Ha Tinh province. In the discussions, they have expressed their concerns over the negative impacts of some projects on the environment, the livelihood of local inhabitants, the performance of eco-tourism areas, and on the Ha Tinh beaches. Besides negative impacts, an initial effectiveness of GEF projects on anti-desertification was also presented. By planting appropriate tree species on the desert areas along seaside, these projects helped to acquire the green color for tens of hectares of the sandy areas of the district Thach Ha, Ha Tinh.

A field trip to some project sites was held to convey valuable information on serious impacts of climate change and of human activities on the Central Region’s environment.
