Do People Matter: Restoring Pedestrian Accessibility in Indian Cities

The presentation outlines the serious environmental, health, welfare, and resource-use impacts caused by rapidly growing motor vehicle activity. It covers the current status of pedestrian infrastructure and facilities, pedestrian accessibility, and the challenges confronting efforts to provide for pedestrians and non-motorized modes in Indian cities. Professor Badami also discusses an agenda for action to address the challenges and to make pedestrian accessibility the foundation of urban transport policy and planning.
